At one time I wondered about the whole appeal of horror movies, the Goth wardrobe thing and anything Macabre. Then I thought back to the book in our high school library with pictures of Lincoln on his deathbed and how it captured my attention. I got over it quickly though!

I must admit, Ann and I will watch “The Mummy” when it comes on. And it’s not a very good movie… maybe it’s the whole black magic thing with the accompanying unknown dialogue in an ancient Egyptian language.

Yep, I follow the Mummy series too. A little campy, but enjoyable.

Just the model 36 and CJ-6; no flights in N5J since we last spoke. Even though I don't plan to fly N5J again, I'd like to spend at day with you in N8PB later this year after your insurance renewal (knock on wood).

Visit Guanajuato, Mexico and there's a place where bodies were stored underground and became mummified. The mummies are propped up against a wall and protected by a roof and outer wall. For a few pesos you walk along the wall and see the mummies in openings in the outer wall and just a few feet away. It's very strange and seems rather disrespectful. You can see the varied body shapes and try to fathom that these used to be living people. To me they're just a shell left behind when the spirit soul mind energy has flown home. I find it so inspiring to read about people's glorious near death experiences on NDERF.

Many years ago I visited Guanajuato and you're right. To a certain respect it is disrespectful but, as I think about it, I don't think I'd mind being put on display so many years after I'd checked out. At the time, I remember thinking I wish I knew some of the history of those we were gawking at. Who were they, what did they do in life, what became of their grand kids, etc. It would be nice to know we and our lives don't just disappear in a hole in the ground or burn up in a pizza oven. I think, however, that I'd draw the line at being mummified and trotted out on my birthday for all of my later family to sing Happy Birthday to. I'd settle for folks saying "Good on ya!" and hoisting a beer (or Dr. Pepper) to me in absentia. :-)

Yet another interesting topic. I'd love to visit some of the ancient sites in Egypt and Central/South America. Not sure I'll get around to it. Too many bucket list items in front of them and the clock is ticking. Been to some interesting museums that have cool artifacts. Wish I'd seen the Tut tour. Most of the photos don't bother me, but Otzi always looks so... uncomfortable.
